the mount peg is threaded and a certain diameter. the mic mount has a threaded hole - matching diameter - with an arbitrary depth . the secure tightness, screwed to the limit, randomly positions the mic mount. 

a threaded ring screws onto the peg to create a false limit or 'threshold'. the 'threshold' adjusts the position of secure tightness, and can therefore correctly position the mic mount's poles parallel to the lens and camera body. 

the adjusted position of secure tightness does not equal tightness of the 'natural' threshold because the threaded ring does not have a 'threshold' of its own.
